The Chambre Gitane is a charming wooden caravan, inspired by the gypsy tradition of the Camargue. Nestled in the garden and carefully decorated, it offers a unique overnight experience without sacrificing comfort: it is fully equipped, featuring a kitchenette and a spacious bathroom with a large shower. Outside, in your private garden area or on the balcony, you can relax, enjoy a drink, and soak in the fresh scent of the pine trees.

The picturesque wooden gypsy caravans, once called verdines, have been part of the region’s folklore for centuries. Depicted by Vincent Van Gogh in his painting The Caravans – Gypsy Camp, now displayed at the Musée d’Orsay, these verdines symbolize the free-spirited and colorful lifestyle of the gypsy people. This tradition is still alive today in the Camargue. Every year, on May 24th and 25th, thousands of nomads gather in Saintes-Maries-de-la-Mer for a pilgrimage honoring their patron saint, Sainte Sara, also known as Sara-la-Kâli, the Black Saint. From the church, her statue is carried to the sea, followed by a procession of devotees and gardians on horseback.
